Delta-8-THC craze concerns chemists

Delta-8-THC is being synthesized from cannabidiol (CBD) extracted from hemp. It is sold in gummies, vape products and other items, often without any age restriction on consumers. With no regulatory oversight and minimal lab testing, chemists are concerned about the impurities resulting from the Delta-8-THC production process. These may include small amounts of Delta-9-and Delta-10-THC, strong acids and metals. The full range of byproducts is not known and differs depending on the manufacturing process. Conversion of CBD to Delta-8-THC requires an exothermic reaction which produces high heat, and some are using solvents such as dichloromethane (methylene chloride). Proper production safety controls are often not being used. Delta-8-THC can make consumers "mildly euphoric" though "it can make you really high," and high doses cause anxiety.
